The most common Thailand question we get from agents isn't about price. It's some version of: which island? And the honest answer is that there's no best island, only a best match, decided by four things: the month, the client's tolerance for crowds, the budget, and whether this is a fly-and-flop or a base for exploring. Here's the decision logic we use on real files, island by island.
Phuket: the default, for good reasons
An international airport with direct wide-body lift, the deepest hotel stock in the country at every price point, hospitals, malls, and day-trip access to Phi Phi and Phang Nga Bay. Phuket is the right answer for first-timers, families who want infrastructure, and anyone on a package timeline where a missed connection matters. The trade-off is that parts of it are exactly as busy as that description implies. The skill is zone selection: Patong for nightlife-positive clients, Kata and Karon for the middle, Nai Harn or the northern beaches for quiet money. Same island, three different holidays. Season: November to April at its best.
Koh Samui: the summer answer
Samui's weather runs on the opposite cycle, at its best roughly January into August, which makes it the island we reach for on summer files when Phuket's sky can't be trusted. It's smaller and gentler than Phuket, with a boutique-and-villa character, and it suits couples and honeymooners especially well. The logistics note: Samui's airport is served mostly by regional aircraft at premium fares, ticketed by you as the agent per our standard split; the fare difference against a Phuket routing is real and belongs in the client conversation early, not after the quote.
Krabi: the scenery, the calm
Krabi province, including Ao Nang and Railay's limestone amphitheatre, delivers the karst-and-longtail postcard Thailand at lower intensity and generally lower cost than Phuket, with its own airport. Phi Phi: visit, don't necessarily stay
Here's the opinion that saves reviews: for most clients Phi Phi is a spectacular day trip and a mediocre overnight. The scenery is the best in the country; the accommodation stock and party-adjacent evenings are not, outside a handful of upper-end properties on their own bays. We build Phi Phi as a speedboat day from Phuket or Krabi on most files and recommend staying only for young independent travellers or clients booking those specific resorts deliberately.
The decision in one paragraph
November to April, first visit, wants everything easy: Phuket, zoned correctly. May to September: Samui, and the airfare conversation early. Scenery-first, crowd-averse, or a Gulf family file: Krabi. Phi Phi: day trip unless the client names the resort. Fly-and-flop honeymoon in summer: Samui villa.
